M Estela Rubio-Gozalbo, MD, PhD
Dr. Estela Rubio Gozalbo is a pediatrician metabolic diseases, Head of metabolic diseases and Associate Professor of Pediatrics at the Maastricht University Medical Center in The Netherlands. She completed her MD degree at the University of Amsterdam and her Pediatric residency at the Emma’s Childrens Hospital in Amsterdam. Thereafter she moved to the Nijmegen University to obtain a degree in metabolic diseases. At this university she also obtained her PhD on mitochondrial diseases. Since 2000 she works at the Maastricht University Medical Center as a staff member of the Pediatric Department and Laboratory Genetic Metabolic Diseases and has developed a successful Galactosemia research line that includes basic to clinical research. Dr. Rubio Gozalbo has been the recipient of several grants and has published over 90 peer reviewed papers and several book chapters. Dr Rubio Gozalbo’s primary basic science and clinical research efforts are focused on Classic Galactosemia and other inherited metabolic disorders. She has played a crucial role in the recently established Galactosemia Network and is the Lead of the European arm. She is proud to be an Honorary member of the Dutch Galactosemia Society (patient organization).
